In 2004, I went to Jamaica, an island in the Caribbean sea. Though I was not aware at that time, I then had my very first jungle experience.
While I was traveling in Jamaica, I had no special interest in going to the jungle, but instead, a sight of the emerald green sea aroused my curiosity.
Going to the beach was definitely on the top of my list.
I remember I was deeply touched by the sight of the beautiful ocean. Mild wind eased my soul and reggae music accompanied my expedition. Ah this is Jamaica, I thought.
My friend and I began to look forward to doing more than hanging by the ocean, and registered to participate in a day-trip to a nearby waterfall. Our van left the beach resort area and cut through a lush forest before we arrived at a river in 2 hours or so.
Along the way, our guide let us try several Jamaican fruits including an ackee, guineps, starfruits, and sugar canes. They were all new to me and delicious. I never knew that tropical fruits were this flavorful. Bananas and mangos tasted exceptionally rich.
As soon as we got off the van, we changed into swimming suits and a good pair of water shoes, and headed for the refreshing river. It was situated in a dense rainforest. There, we made our way up the river by swimming, diving, and climbing on the slippery rocks.

My first jungle experience
The magnificent view of the waterfall made me speechless.
I managed to stand behind and right under the fall.
The powerful current nearly washed me away, but I truly loved being there.
Being relaxed at the beach was surely enjoyable.
On the other hand, the trip to the waterfall made me realize
my enthusiasm for walking in the rainforest and active exploration.
I have been fascinated by rainforests ever since.
The more you understand, the deeper mystery a jungle unfolds.
The deeper you go, the further you wish to walk into.
Going to a jungle is now on the top of my list.
